A massive congratulation to The Hole in the Wall as they won the overall title of Cornwall CAMRA Pub of the Year. The Hole in the Wall will now go forward to compete for CAMRA National Pub of the Year.

Please come and celebrate the winner’s successes with us.

9th July at 12.30pm for a branch Social with a 2pm presentation at The Star Inn, Vogue

CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year considers all the criteria that makes a good pub. All CAMRA branches nationally choose their pub of the year which then gets entered into 16 regional competitions. Then the overall winner gets chosen for CAMRA’s National pub of the Year.

Now we need your support to choose next year’s Pubs of the Year. We are looking for pubs that serve excellent real ale, have a great atmosphere and is somewhere you feel welcomed. If you know a pub, nominate it by email to our pubs officer Rod Davies with your comments to support your recommendation. This will give us plenty of time to visit the pubs prior to judging in early 2017. Ensure they all get fighting chance at the coveted title.

This year we are also looking to award two more titles.

Firstly, the CAMRA Kernow Cider Pub of the Year. The best Cider pub in the county that serves focuses on serving smashing real cider with a great atmosphere, a place you enjoy spending time in. Lin Dopson our cider representative will take your nominations. This year’s accolade goes to the Red lion, Newquay for demonstrating an ongoing commitment to real cider.

Celebrate with us on the 2nd July at 12.00pm with a Branch Social and a 2pm presentation at The Red Lion, Newquay

Secondly, this year we would also like to recognise Clubs, as CAMRA Club of the Year Competition is growing rapidly as more clubs show great commitment to serve quality good conditioned real ale. Do you know a Club in Cornwall that allows free entry for CAMRA members? Do you feel that the Club is good enough to become Kernow CAMRA Club of the year or even the National CAMRA Club of the year? If you do and the Club serves top quality real ale, offers a fantastic atmosphere and welcoming surroundings. Then message us the details, they could be our first CAMRA Kernow Club of the Year.

We will be soon nominating pubs for 2018 Good Beer Guide. Do you know a real ale pub that you feel should go into the good beer guide? The selection for this guide is slightly different. We focus primarily on the sale of consistently well-conditioned real ale. The CAMRA www.WhatPub.com website helps the scoring process as it enables all CAMRA members nationwide to score the quality of ales they drink in pubs they visit. We urge every member to support those pubs they drink in by scoring their beer. It’s a simple 0-5 Score.

0. No cask ale available.

1. Poor. Beer is anything from barely drinkable to drinkable with considerable resentment.

2. Average. Competently kept, drinkable pint but doesn't inspire in any way, not worth moving to another pub but you drink the beer without really noticing.

3. Good. Good beer in good form. You may cancel plans to move to the next pub. You want to stay for another pint and may seek out the beer again.

4. Very Good. Excellent beer in excellent condition. You stay put!

5. Perfect. Probably the best you are ever likely to find. A seasoned drinker will award this score very rarely.
