Campaign for Real Ale

CAMRA Kernow Pub of the Year and Cider Pub of the Year 2017

Saturday 25 March 2017

The winners of, CAMRA Kernow (Cornwall Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale) Pubs of the Year 2017 has been decided. Throughout the last year the quality of in excess of 5,000 pints of beer and cider has been scored in Cornwall on the CAMRA whatpub.com application. Theses scores along with visit reports have been used to compile a list of 62 pubs that will make it into the yearly CAMRA Good Beer Guide to represent the Pubs serving the best beer in Cornwall. A selection of the very best pubs have been nominated by the CAMRA Kernow Members to be consider as Pub of the Year or Cider Pub of the year.

CAMRA’s National Pub of the Year considers all the criteria that makes a good pub including fundamentally the beer and cider quality but the overall experience, the cleanliness, the welcome received, the service provided and the positive reflection of CAMRAs aims to promote Beer, Cider and Perry. All CAMRA branches nationally have chosen their pub of the year which then gets entered into 16 regional competitions. The overall winner becoming CAMRA’s National pub of the Year. Our fingers are crossed for regional and national success for our Cornish winners.

We would like to raise a glass to all of the pubs that were shortlisted in this year’s pub of the year title race, which is a massive accolade in itself. The top six pubs being the Star Inn (Crowlas), Beerwolf Books and the ‘front (Falmouth), the Bell Inn (Launceston), the Red Lion (Newquay) and the Old Ale House (Truro). The top three Cider Pubs of the Year being the Red Lion (Newquay), the Stable (Fistral) and Beerwolf Books (Falmouth).

With a huge cheer and massive congratulations to Robin Lawson and his team, it’s a pleasure to announce that the Old Ale House, Truro is the CAMRA Kernow Pub of the year 2017 and also to Dan Rollerson and his team, at the Stable, Fistral is named CAMRA Kernow Cider Pub of the year 2017. There is one other special mention and an award of CAMRA Kernow Pub of the year Runner-Up that we would like to award the ‘front in Falmouth, who were exceptionally close to the title, so congratulations to Matt Reay and his team in Falmouth.

The official Pub of the Year presentations will be happening at the Ale house, the beautiful traditional pub in the heart of Truro city centre. The CAMRA Branch Social will kick off on Saturday 20th May at 12.30 with the official presentation happening at 2pm, with the opportunity taste some mighty fine exceptional range of Skinners ales and meet your local CAMRA members helping the pub celebrate its success.

The ‘front the Pub of the Year Runner-Up presentation will be held on Sunday 23rd April when we will have a CAMRA Branch Social from 2pm with the presentation at 2.30. Of course there is no need to wait as the ‘front offers a pilgrimage to all seeking a safe haven to nibble on a pasty with a consistently changing range of 10+ ales and ciders always in fantastic form.

May has been crowned as Cider month by CAMRA and we would like to recognise the Stable Fistral, a contemporary bar with panoramic views across Fistral Beach, with the Cider Pub of the Year on Saturday 13th May at 12.30 the official presentation at 2pm. Come and meet people who are passionate about real cider and delve to hidden depths with a range of in excess of 60 different ciders available.

Please do come and share in the Pubs success with us. We would love to see you at these presentations or at any of the festivals or events that we host throughout the year as we actively try to protect and promote pubs and promote Real Ale, Cider and Perry. Please help us promote your local. See the website for full details www.cornwall.camra.org.uk. We currently have 1,239 CAMRA members in Cornwall and we will always have some room for some more.
