St Austell Brewery launches four limited-edition cask beers for 2025 with a special cinema theme

Shark Bait, Outta Time, Breakfast Club, Maverick, and Jingle All the Way complete the star-studded lineup, which is set to take centre stage in a selection of St Austell Brewery’s managed pubs, as well as in its leased and tenanted estate across the West Country, and in independent pubs across the UK throughout the year.

The exclusive beers form part of St Austell Brewery’s Cask Club series, which sees its brewers experiment by bringing unique brews to life in its Small Batch Brewery.

Shark Bait is light and zesty with flavours of passionfruit and stone fruits. Available from 3rd March, expect a clean, crisp, and fruity 3.9% session pale ale that’s the perfect thirst-quencher to enjoy on dry land.

Outta Time is a 4.3% golden ale, featuring a mix of floral, herbal, and tropical hop flavours, which come together in harmony with sweet, oaty malt. Set your destination to the pub and get ready for a pint to remember from 6th March.

Breakfast Club, a 4.5% golden ale, is a brewing collaboration between St Austell Brewery and Toast Brewing, a London-based craft brewery that uses surplus bakery bread to brew its beers. The fresh and fruity golden ale has been crafted with British Harlequin and Jester hops alongside Toast’s surplus bread crumb and will be available from 30th June.

Maverick is an acceleration of orange, hops, and honey landing on bars from 1st September. Pale in colour and full-bodied, this 4.5% American IPA is brewed with Amarillo, Citra, and Cascade hops.

Jingle All the Way will be the Christmas hero of the pub from 17th November. The premium 4.1% amber ale has a rich aroma of piney hops and raisin, toffee, and malt notes. With a deep and bittersweet finish, having been brewed with British ingredients including Challenger and Goldings hops, it’s the perfect tipple to ring in the festive season.

Georgina Young, St Austell Brewery’s Brewing Director, said: “We are thrilled to announce the launch of our brand-new collection of limited-edition cask beers, inspired by some of the most iconic films in cinematic history.

“This exclusive line pays tribute to legendary movies, blending storytelling with great flavours for an immersive drinking experience. Whether you're a fan of action-packed thrillers or timeless classics, there's a brew that should capture everyone.”

Penzance Brewing Company Celebrates First-Place Win for MILD and Second for Scilly Stout (2025) at the Champion Beer of Britain Awards

Penzance Brewing Company is basking in the glow of incredible achievements at the 2024 Champion Beer of Britain Awards, where they not only secured the coveted first-place award for their MILD but also earned second place in a South West region for their beloved Scilly Stout in 2025.

These accolades are a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship, dedication, and passion that has defined the brewery’s journey.

A Triumph for Penzance Brewing Company

The Champion Beer of Britain Awards are one of the most prestigious in the brewing world, and to come out on top in such a competitive environment is an extraordinary accomplishment. With MILD’s first-place win, Penzance Brewing Company has once again proven that they are at the forefront of brewing excellence. This victory is made even more remarkable by the second-place finish in 2025 of their Scilly Stout, which continues to impress beer lovers and judges alike.

    Celebrating Key Individuals:

Tracey Elvin – A heartfelt congratulations to Tania, whose leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping Penzance Brewing Company's success. Tania's unwavering commitment to quality brewing and her support for the team have been pivotal in reaching this remarkable milestone. Her ability to combine tradition with innovation has undoubtedly contributed to the brewery’s well-earned reputation. Pete would have been proud of this team.

Lewis Elliott (Head Brewer) – Lewis has played an integral role in creating the award-winning beers that have taken the brewing world by storm. His expertise in crafting beers that are both distinctive and true to style is reflected in the recognition of MILD and Scilly Stout at this year’s awards. Lewis’s passion for quality brewing is evident in every pour, making him a key driver of the brewery’s ongoing success.

Richard Hickman – Richard has contributed significantly to Penzance Brewing Company’s reputation for producing top-tier beers. His attention to detail and dedication to the craft have clearly been essential in achieving these prestigious awards, including Scilly Stout’s strong showing at the Champion Beer of Britain competition 2025.

    The Story Behind Scilly Stout

While MILD took home the gold, Scilly Stout’s second-place finish is a feat worthy of celebration in itself. This full-bodied stout with deep roasted malt flavours and a smooth finish has long been a favourite among locals and visitors alike.

It’s a beer that embodies the spirit of Cornwall, with its rich flavours and complex profile capturing the essence of the coastal environment. Scilly Stout’s impressive performance in this highly competitive category highlights the brewery's ability to produce a range of exceptional beers.

The MILD Victory: A Well-Deserved Triumph

MILD’s first-place win at the 2024 Champion Beer of Britain Awards is a special moment, particularly given the style’s resurgence in recent years. With its deep malt character, smooth drinkability, and balanced flavour profile, MILD has a long history in British brewing but has often been overshadowed by more contemporary styles.

However, Penzance Brewing Company’s dedication to perfecting this classic style shows that MILD is still very much alive and well. This win places Penzance Brewing Company among the best in the country and showcases their skill in creating beers that balance tradition and innovation.

    A Bright Future Ahead

As Penzance Brewing Company celebrates these significant victories, it’s clear that their hard work, expertise, and passion for brewing have set the stage for an even more exciting future. With national recognition now firmly in hand, there’s no doubt that MILD and Scilly Stout will continue to capture the hearts and palates of beer lovers around the UK and beyond.

This recognition also brings greater visibility to Penzance Brewing Company’s dedication to their craft, and we’re eager to see how their award-winning beers will continue to shape the future of the brewing industry.

    Congratulations to the Entire Team!

From the brewery’s staff to its loyal customers, the success at the 2024 Champion Beer of Britain Award it is a true reflection of Penzance Brewing Company’s collective effort. Congratulations to Tania, Lewis, Richard, and everyone involved. Your hard work and passion have been rewarded, and we look forward to seeing what comes next in your brewing journey.

  • Cornwall’s Biggest Charitable Beer Festival Raises £12,000 Thursday 23 January 2025

    .

Thousands of revellers descended on St Austell Brewery for its much-anticipated annual Celtic Beer Festival in November.

The day-long festival transformed the brewery's historic Victorian cellars into a bustling venue, with five bars offering more than 100 beers from over 50 UK breweries who generously donated their beer, accompanied by live music throughout the day.

A remarkable £12,000 was raised for charity during the event, thanks to ticket sales from the 1,300+ attendees who joined in with the community spirit of the festival.

The primary goal of the event is to raise funds for the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust, which supports vital causes across the South West.

Since its launch in 2003, the Charitable Trust has raised over £1,000,000, aiding organisations and individuals in need. In 2024 alone, the Trust donated more than £95,000 to various causes, including youth mental health services, the air ambulance, and local families requiring support or equipment.

The annual Celtic Beer Festival remains the Trust’s flagship fundraising event, alongside various other efforts from its pub teams and individuals, such as pub quizzes, sponsored walks, and a charity gala with a silent auction which raised a huge £47,000. Team members from its 160+ pub estate also generously take part in various challenges to raise additional funds each year.

Georgina Young, Brewing Director at St Austell Brewery, said: “The 23rd Celtic Beer Festival was a highlight in our calendar where we all get together to celebrate every wonderful style of beer out there, from porters to sours, lagers to seaweed-salted bitters. There was something new for everyone to try.

“What’s more, it was all for a great cause, with the money raised going back to brilliant causes across the South West via our Charitable Trust.”

The St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust accepts applications from across the South West, from Cornwall up to Somerset all year-round. It is now encouraging individuals and charities across the region to apply for grants to kickstart their year.

Examples of where the money has helped in past years include funding home equipment needed for people with disabilities, as well as buying an adaptive surf wheelchair for a small water charity in Bude.

The primary purpose of the Trust is to support local campaigns for organisations designed to help people in need, or to support individuals who don’t have access to charity donations in the ‘normal’ way.

Those interested in applying for a grant from the St Austell Brewery Charitable Trust can do so by visiting: https://staustellbrewery.co.uk/charitable-trust/.

  • Cornwall CAMRA Presentation to Treen’s Brewery Monday 23 December 2024

Saturday the 7 December 2024 was notable for two memorable events. The first was Storm Darragh that lashed Cornwall with howling winds and rain bringing down trees, cables and any CAMRA members who got in the way. The second was the presentation of two CAMRA certificates to Treen’s Brewery at the Stag Hunt at Ponsanooth.

Not to be put off, especially due to the lure of Treen’s beers on the bar, I set off by bus for Ponsanooth, planning to use the A roads which I hoped would be less likely to be blocked. So far so good until it became clear that the first bus was making heavy weather and not going to make my change point in time to catch the second bus to get to the pub. Desperate measures were called for. I got off the bus by Kennal Bridge and walked up the wooded viaduct valley with swaying trees dropping twigs and branches down on me. I passed the entrance to Treen’s and Dynamite Valley breweries and arrived on time at the pub unscathed. As the Poacher advert went “I’ve never known a night like it, and I’m not looking forward to the journey home neither!”

Landlord Wayne Randle had a wonderful range of Treen’s beer so I got stuck in!

There were two certificates to be presented to Simon Treen for winning gold places in CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain heats. Well done, Simon!

Cornwall Branch Chair Paul Waller made the presentations to Simon. A good time was had by all.

Eventually it was time to face Darragh again. Fortunately, the beer has improved since 1987 even if the weather hasn’t.

    Cheers, Steve Barber

This week's Cask Club release is Off Leash

Brewed by Rob Alder, Off Leash is the beer-ification of those late year walks with the dog, as the leaves lose the last of their colour and you start longing for the fireside seat with a robust beer in your hand.

Centennial and Amarillo hops offer flavours of orange, whilst Northern Brewer hops add a light and fresh mintiness - reminscent of the cold air biting at your nose.

The robust malt base brings a warmth in notes of toffee a biscuit, creating a truly delicious beer that's as refreshing as it is comforting. Cheers!
