It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rod Davis on the 24th September in hospital at the age of 84. The branch wishes to offer their deepest condolences to Maddie and the rest of Rods family at this difficult time.

As I didn't know Rod that well I would like to thank Gerry and Jan Wills along with Steve Barber for contributing to the following in Rods honour.

Rod was a passionate supporter of CAMRA and Stalwart of CAMRA Kernow and his passing is a great loss.

He was voted Branch Chairman in 1999 and held the post for about 11 years. The Chairman at this time did everything other than Treasurer, Secretary, Membership and Branch Contact. This changed overtime. As Pubs Officer he covered all the current roles plus Media Contact.

In the year 2000 responsibility for festival organisation was passed to Gerry Wills under the post of Festival Organiser, but Rod continued as a member of the Festival Committee.

He was BLO for Redruth Brewery and the Isles of Scilly Brewery, both now closed.

Rod was a regular at GBBF for many years and a member of the CBOB Tasting Panel.

He also attended Regional Meetings on behalf of the Branch for many years, first as Branch Chairman, later as Deputy Regional Director, during this period he also held the Regional Transport portfolio.

Rod personally carried out Pub of the Year surveys at both Local and Regional level for many years and also co-ordinated the results.

To sum up, the main achievement of Rods tenure as Chairman through his stewardship, was raising the identity and standing of CAMRA Kernow. This was achieved with the introduction of the following: -

Branch Logo, Branch Colours, Kerwenek title, expansion of beer festivals, entry into POTY, expanding the distribution of One & Ale magazine along with co-ordinating GBG Surveys and selection.

Alongside all of the above, Rod also provided regular contributions to the One & Ale magazine under the pseudonym of “Lizard”. Additionally, being artistic he also provided maps for the now defunct local town pub guides.

He really was a busy boy!!

Rod retired from the final role he held as Pubs Officer earlier this year to become, as he put an "ordinary branch member". Sadly, this was to only last five months before ill health took him from us. Rest in peace Rod.
